Nightstand Necessities

I’m sure you’ve heard it: you spend roughly 1/3 of your life sleeping, so invest in a good mattress + bedding. Now, what you might not have heard is that what have on your nightstand setup also makes a direct impact on your sleep quality. Keeping a clean nightstand helps ease your mind at nightstand so you can start fresh in the morning. Set yourself up for success with a well thought out nightstand setup that’s both beautiful and functional with these tips:

LIGHTING

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, and again, and again. Layering your lighting is one of the most impactful decisions you’ll make when designing a space. It has the power to change the whole mood. The lighting on your nightstand can be table lamps, wall sconces or small pendants, and must always, always be dimmable. We feel very passionate about lighting design here at CPI.

Open + Closed storage

Balance is key. Unless you are the queen of a super minimalist lifestyle, all open nightstands is likely going to get messy real quick. A few things we store in the closed storage: dog treats, eye cream, sleep mask, jewelry dish. You can also place your jewelry dish in an open area but I really lean into the clutter free life as much as possible.

Drop zone

This is a dedicated space for things like watches, jewelry, hair elastics, etc. Having a dedicated dish for all items alike can be stored in both the open area or behind closed drawers to help keep the space tidy.

Water Carafe/coaster

If you don’t sleep with water by your bed, start now. If you don’t wake up in the middle of the night parched, then finish the glass first thing in the morning to rehydrate. This will reinvigorate you first thing in the morning before you get out of bed, and you’re setting yourself up for success.

Clock/charging

Like a drop zone, having a dedicated space for charging (don’t forget cord control!) will keep the space neat. I love a charging pad, but have recently moved my charging away from my bedside to the dresser and put a clock there instead. whatever floats your boat, just keep the cords clean.

Something living

Lastly, help detoxify the air you breath for 8 hours every night, or 6 if sleep isn’t your friend. But with a good mattress, nice bedding and a properly functioning nightstand, who knows, maybe your sleep will improve?
